Translated by Hassan As-Somali
[The piety and humility of the Salaf]
When Ramadaan came to a close, the rightly guided predecessors (As-Salaf As-Saalih) used to frequently seek forgiveness, repent to Allaah – The Mighty and Majestic – and fear that their (deeds) would not be accepted. They used to exert themselves (in worship) in Ramadaan and outside of Ramadaan, afterwards they would be fearful that none of this will be accepted.
[How the Salaf behaved when Ramadaan was approaching and when it left]
They used to seek the forgiveness of Allaah and repent. So much so that it was reported that they would supplicate to Allaah for six months that He would allow them to reach Ramadaan. If He allowed them to reach Ramadaan, they would fast, pray at night and supplicate for the next six months that He accepts the month of Ramadaan from them.
[Signs that Ramadaan has been accepted]
Following good deeds with good is a sign that (an act) has been accepted, whether it is pertaining to Ramadaan or other than it. If the Muslim is in a good state after Ramadaan, performing many good deeds and righteous actions, then this is a proof of acceptance.
[Signs that Ramadaan hasn’t been accepted]
If the opposite is true, and he follows good with evil, and as soon as Ramadaan is over he follows on from this with sins, heedlessness and turning away from the obedience of Allaah, then this is a proof that it hasn’t been accepted.
Every person knows their true situation after Ramadaan. So let them look, if they are in a better state, then let them thank Allaah, as this shows (that it has been) accepted.
If their state is worse, then let them repent to Allaah and seek the forgiveness of Allaah, as this is a proof that it hasn’t been accepted and it is a proof of negligence and carelessness.
[Do not despair of the Mercy of Allaah]
But the slave should not lose hope of the mercy of Allaah. He should not close the door that is between him and Allaah and despair of the mercy of Allaah.
“Say: O my slaves who have transgressed against themselves (by committing evil deeds and sins). Do not despair of the Mercy of Allaah: verily Allaah forgives all sins. He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” (Az-Zumar: 53)
It is upon him to repent, seek the forgiveness of Allaah and return to Allaah – The Mighty and Majestic.
Allaah – The Mighty and Majestic – accepts repentance from those that repent.
“And He it is Who accepts repentance from His slaves, and forgives sins, and He knows what you do.” (Ash-Shura:25)
And the peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad.

Da’wah to Allâh rests upon firm pillars and is established upon foundations which are absolutely essential. If any of these are missing, the da’wah will not be correct, nor will it produce the desired results - no matter how much effort is expended, nor how much time is wasted. And this is the reality which we witness with regards to many of the present-day calls, which are not supported by those pillars, nor built upon those firm foundations.
These pillars which support the correct da’wah are clearly shown in the Book and the Sunnah, and can be summarised as follows:-
[1] Knowledge of That Which One Calls To
Since the ignorant person is not suitable to be a dâ’î (caller). Allâh - the Most High - said to His Prophet sallallâhu ’alayhi wa sallam:
“Say, O Muhammad sallallâhu ’alayhi wa sallam, this is my way: I call to Allâh (i.e. the testification that none has the right to be worshipped except Allâh alone, having no partner) upon certain knowledge - I and those who follow me.” [Sûrah Yûsuf 12:108]
And Basîrah is knowledge. So the dâ’î is certain to encounter those who are scholars of misguidance, those who will attack him with doubts and futile arguments, in order to rebut the truth. And Allâh - the Most High - says:
“And argue with them in a way that is better.” [Sûrah an-Nahl 16:125]
Furthermore, the Prophet sallallâhu ’alayhi wa sallam said to Mu’âdh: “You are going to a people from the people of the Book.” [2] So if the dâ’î is not armed with sufficient knowledge for him to face the doubts, and contend with the opponent, then he will be defeated in the first encounter and will be halted at the beginning of the way.
[2] Acting In Accordance With That Which He Calls To
So that he will be a good example - his actions attesting to his words, and leaving no excuse for the opponents of the truth. Allâh - the Most High - said about His Prophet Shu’ayb, that he said to his people:
“I do not wish to forbid you from something and then do it myself. Rather, I only wish to rectify you as far as I am able.” [Sûrah Hûd 11:88]
And Allâh - the Most High - said to His Prophet Muhammad sallallâhu ’alayhi wa sallam:
“Say, O Muhammad sallallâhu ’alayhi wa sallam! Indeed my Prayer, my sacrifice, my living and my dying are all purely and solely for Allâh, Lord of the Worlds. There is no share of any of that for other than Him. That is what my Lord has ordered me, and I am the first of this nation to submit to Allâh as a Muslim.” [Sûrah al-An’âm 6:162-163]
“Who is better in speech than the one who calls the people to Allâh and does righteous actions.” [Sûrah Fussilat 41:33]
[3] Al-Ikhlâs (Purity of Intention)
Such that the da’wah is done purely and sincerely to seek the Face of Allâh and His reward. It is not done for show, nor repute, nor status, nor leadership, nor desiring worldly goals - since if any of these goals adulterate the da’wah then da’wah will not be purely for Allâh; rather it would then be a call for oneself, or for the attainment of a worldly goal, as Allâh informs that His Prophets said to their respective people:
“I do not ask you for any reward for conveying this Qur‘ân.” [Sûrah al-An’âm 6:90]
“I do not ask you for any monetary recompense for my admonition.” [Sûrah Hûd 11:29]
[4] Beginning With What is of Primary Importance, Then With What Comes Next in Importance, and So On
So firstly he calls to the correction of ’aqîdah (beliefs and creed), by ordering that all worship is made purely for Allâh, and that shirk is forbidden. Then ordering the establishment of the Prayer, and the paying of the Zakâh, and that the obligatory duties are carried out and that the forbidden matters are avoided. This was the procedure followed by all the Messengers, as Allâh - the Most High - says:
“We sent a Messenger to every nation, ordering them that they should worship Allâh alone, obey Him and make their worship purely for Him; and that they should avoid everything worshipped besides Allâh.” [Sûrah an-Nahl 16:36]
“We did not send any Messenger before you, O Muhammad, except that We revealed to him that none has the right to be worshipped except Allâh, so make all your worship purely for Allâh.” [Sûrah al-Anbiyâ 21:25]
Furthermore, when the Prophet sallallâhu ’alayhi wa sallam sent Mu’âdh to Yemen, he said to him: “Indeed you are going to a people from the people of the Book, so let the first thing you call them to be the testification that none has the right to be worshipped except Allâh. So if they accept this, then inform them that Allâh has obligated five Prayers upon them in each day and night ... ” [3]
Then there is in his sallallâhu ’alayhi wa sallam’s way and method of giving da’wah, the best example and the most perfect and complete methodology - in that he sallallâhu ’alayhi wa sallam remained in Makkah for thirteen years, calling the people to Tawhîd and forbidding them from Shirk, before he ordered them with Prayer, Zakâh, Fasting and Hajj, and before he forbade them from usury, fornication, theft and murder.
[5] Patient Perseverance in Facing Difficulties Encountered in Calling to Allâh, and in Facing Harm From the People
For the path of da’wah is not strewn with roses, rather it is covered with hardships and hazards. The best example of this is the case of the Messengers - may Allâh’s praises and blessings of peace be upon them all - with regards to the harm and the mockery which they suffered from their people. As Allâh - the Most High - said to His Messenger sallallâhu ’alayhi wa sallam:
“Indeed Messengers were also mocked before you, but those who mocked them were overtaken by the punishment that they made light of.” [Sûrah al-An’âm 6:10]
And He said:
“Indeed Messengers were also denied before you, but they bore these denials with patient perseverance, and they suffered harm until Our help came to them.” [Sûrah al-An’âm 6:34]
Likewise, the followers of the Prophets met with the same harm and hardship, in proportion to their efforts in calling to Allâh, following the example of those noble Messengers - may Allâh’s praise and purest blessings of peace be upon them all.
[6] The Caller Must Be a Person of Good Manners Using Wisdom in His Call
Since this will be an important reason for the acceptance of his call. Just as Allâh ordered his two noble Prophets: Mûsâ and Hârûn - ’alayhimus-salâtu was-salâm - that this was the manner in which they were to face the worst Unbeliever upon the face of this earth: Fir’awn (Pharaoh), who claimed Lordship for himself. Allâh - the One free from all imperfections - said:
“And speak mildly to him, that he might accept admonition or fear and obey Allâh.” [Sûrah Tâ Hâ 20:44]
And Allâh - the Most High - said to Mûsâ ’alayhis-salâtu was- salâm:
“Go to Fir’awn who has transgressed all bounds in his haughtiness, pride and disbelief, and say: Will you not purify yourself from the sin of disbelief and be obedient to your Lord? And that I guide you to the worship of your Lord, so that you may submit fearfully to Him and be obedient to Him.” [Sûrah an-Nâzi’ât 79:17-19]
And Allâh - the Most High - said, concerning His Prophet Muhammad sallallâhu ’alayhi wa sallam:
“By the mercy of Allâh you behaved with gentleness towards them, and had you been severe and harsh hearted they would have left you and departed.” [Sûrah Âli-’Imrân 3:159]
“Indeed you, O Muhammad sallallâhu ’alayhi wa sallam, are on an exalted religion / standard of character.” [Sûrah al-Qalam 68:4]
“O Muhammad sallallâhu ’alayhi wa sallam! Call mankind to the way prescribed by yoke Lord with the Revelation that has been sent down to you, and admonish them with the examples and warnings that Allâh has provided in His Book, and argue with them in a way that is better.” [Sûrah an-Nahl 16:125]
[7] The Caller Must Remain Firm in His Expectation and Hope for Good
He should not despair of the effect of his call, nor about the guidance of his people. Nor should he despair of the aid and the help of Allâh - even if a long time passes. Again, he has the best example in this matter in the Messengers of Allâh. So the Prophet of Allâh, Nûh - ’alayhis-salâtu was-salâm - remained amongst his people for nine-hundred and fifty years, calling them to Allâh.
Also, when the harm and the hurt caused by the Unbelievers became severe, and the Angel of the mountain came to our Prophet Muhammad sallallâhu ’alayhi wa sallam, asking if he wanted him to crush them with the two mountains, he replied: “No! I wish to have patience with them. Hopefully Allâh will produce from them offspring; who will worship Allâh alone, not giving any partner to Him.” [4] So if the dâ’î lacks this attribute, he will halt at the start of the path and feel discouraged and frustrated.
So whichever call is not built upon these foundations, and whose manhaj (methodology) is not the methodology of the Messengers - then it will be frustrated and will fail, and it will be toil without benefit. The clearest proof of this are those present day Jamâ’ahs (groups) which set out a methodology and programme for themselves and their da’wah, which is different to the methodology of the Messengers. These groups have neglected the importance of ’aqîdah (correct beliefs and creed) - except for a very few of them - and instead call for the correction of side issues. So one group calls for the correction of rule and politics and demands establishment of the hudûd (prescribed punishments), and that Sharî’ah (Islâmic Law) be applied in judging amongst the people - and this indeed is something very important, but it is not what is most important: Since how can one seek to establish and apply Allâh’s judgement upon the thief and the fornicator, before seeking to establish and apply Allâh’s judgement upon the mushrik - the one who attributes worship to others besides Allâh. How can we demand that Allâh’s judgement be applied to two men disputing about a sheep or a camel, before demanding that Allâh’s judgement be applied upon those who worship idols and graves, and those who deny or hold heretical beliefs with regards to Allâh’s Names and Attributes - divesting them of their true meaning, or distorting them. Are these people not greater criminals than those who fornicate, drink wine and steal?!! Since those are crimes against mankind, whereas shirk and denial of Allâh’s Names and Attributes are crimes against the Creator - the One free from all imperfections - and the right of the Creator has precedence over the rights of creation.
Shaykhul-Islâm Ibn Taymiyyah (d.728H) says in his book: al-Istiqâmah (1/466): “So these sins along with correct Tawhîd are better than corrupted Tawhîd in the absence of these sins.” [5]
Then another Jamâ’ah (group) affiliate themselves with da’wah, except that their methodology is also at variance with the methodology of the Messengers. They give no importance to correct ’aqîdah, rather they give importance to some acts of worship and practicing dhikr (remembrance of Allâh) in the way of the Sûfîs. They concentrate upon khurûj (going out) and touring the lands, and what is important to them is that they manage to attract the people to join them without caring about their ’aqîdah. And all of these are innovated ways, taking as their starting point, matters which were left until last in the call of the Messengers. This is just like the case of someone who seeks to cure a body whose head has been decapitated - since the place of ’aqîdah in the religion, is like the head with regard to the body. Thus it is necessary for these groups to correct their concepts and understanding, by referring back to the Book and the Sunnah, in order to know the methodology of the Messengers in calling to Allâh. For indeed Allâh - the One free from all imperfections - informed that correct rule and sovereignty, which is the central part of the call of the former Jamâ’ah whom we mentioned, cannot be achieved except after correcting ’aqîdah, such that all worship is for Allâh alone and worship of everything else is abandoned. Allâh - the Most High - says:
“Allâh has promised to those amongst you who truly have îmân (true faith and belief) and act in obedience to Allâh and His Messenger, that He will grant them rulership upon the earth, just as He granted it to those before them, and that He will establish their Religion for them and grant them the authority to practice their Religion which He chose and ordered them with. And He will certainly change their situation to one of security, after their fear. Providing that they worship and obey Me, not associating anything else in worship with Me. Then, whoever rejects this favour by disobedience to their Lord - then they are the rebellious transgressors.” [Sûrah an-Nûr 24:55]
So these people wish to establish the Islâmic State before purifying the lands of idolatrous beliefs which take the form of worship of the dead, and devotion to the tombs - such as is no different to the worship of al-Lât, al-’Uzzâ and the third of them Manât, rather it is worse. So they are attempting that which is impossible:
“And whosoever seeks greatness without effort and exertion,
Will only be wasting his life in seeking something impossible.”
Indeed, establishment and application of the Sharî’ah and the prescribed punishments, and the establishment of the Islâmic State, and avoidance of whatever is prohibited, and achievement of whatever is obligatory - all of these things are from the rights of Tawhîd and matters which perfect it and follow on from it. So how can we give attention to that which is subsidiary whilst neglecting that which is of primary importance?

Honey - Prophet’s guidance regarding the usuage of it

Honey - Prophet’s guidance regarding the usuage of it
by Ibn al-Qayyim
Taken from Zaad al-Ma’aad, 4/224, 225, 4/33, 34.
Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“There comes forth from their [bees’] bellies, a drink of varying colour wherein is healing for men” [al-Nahl 16:69]
Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:
With regard to the Prophet’s guidance concerning drinking, it is the most perfect guidance that maintains good health.
•He (Sallalahi Alahi WaSallam) used to drink honey mixed with cold water.
◦This is very healthy and no one can understand how healthy it is except the most prominent doctors.
◦For drinking honey on an empty stomach dissolves phlegm, cleanses the stomach, reduces its viscosity, washes away waste matter, warms it up a little and opens its inlet and exit.
◦It has a similar effect on the liver, kidneys and urethra.
◦It is more beneficial to the stomach than any other kind of sweet that enters it.
◦However it may cause side effects in people who are suffering from jaundice because it is hot and jaundice is hot, so it may aggravate it; in order to avoid this effect vinegar may be added, then honey will become beneficial and drinking it will be more useful than many or most of the drinks that are made from sugar, especially for those who are not used to these drinks, for if they drink them they will not suit them as well as honey does, or even come close.
•With regard to drinking it when it is collected and well-prepared, this is one of the most beneficial things for the body, and one of the greatest means of preserving health; it is very refreshing and energizing, and it is good for the liver and heart.
◦If it is well-prepared it provides nutrition and makes food reach all parts of the body in the most effective manner.
Zaad al-Ma’aad, 4/224, 225
And he said (may Allaah have mercy on him):
•Honey contains great benefits, for it cleanses impurities from the veins and stomach etc, whether it is eaten or applied to the skin.
•It is good for the elderly, the phlegmatic and those whose humours are cold and wet.
•It is nourishing, aids digestion, energizes, makes unpleasant medicine palatable, is good for the liver and chest, is a diuretic and helps to ease coughs caused by phlegm.
•If it is drunk warm mixed with rosewater it is beneficial for one who has been bitten by a scorpion or who has consumed opium.
•If it is drunk on its own mixed with water, it is good for the one who has been bitten by a rabid dog or eaten poisonous mushrooms.
•If fresh meat is placed in honey, it will stay fresh for three months, as will cucumbers, pumpkins and eggplants. Many fruits can be kept in it for six months.
•It will also preserve a dead body, and it is known as the trustworthy preserver.
•If the body of one who is afflicted with lice is painted with honey, it will kill the lice and their eggs.
•It makes the hair long, beautiful and smooth.
•If used on the eyes like kohl it clears the vision.
•If the teeth are brushed with it, it whitens the teeth and makes them bright, and keeps the gums healthy.
•It opens the veins and induces menstruation.
•If taken on an empty stomach it takes away phlegm and cleanses the stomach, clearing away waste matter and restoring the correct temperature. It does likewise to the liver, kidneys and urethra.
•As well as all this, it has no side effects and causes little harm.
◦It may cause side effects in one who is suffering from jaundice, but that may be counteracted by vinegar and the like, in which case it becomes very beneficial for him.
•It is a kind of nourishment, a kind of medicine, a kind of drink, a kind of sweet, a kind of cream.
•There is nothing that has been created for us for a similar purpose that is better than it, or even comes close.
•The ancient peoples relied on it, and in most of the books of the ancients there is no mention of sugar at all and it was unknown to them, for it is something that is very new.
•The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to drink honey mixed with water on an empty stomach, and this is the secret of maintaining good health that no one can understand except one who is intelligent and blessed.

The Prophet's (Peace be upn him) Advice to Mu'aadh ibn Jabal
The Prophet's (Peace be upn him) Advice to Mu'aadh ibn Jabal
By: Shaykh Muhammad Salih al-Uthaymeen
Sharh Riyadh as-Saliheen
Mu'aadh bin Jabal reported from the Messenger of Allaah (Sallalaahu Alaihi wa Sallam) that he said:
"Fear Allaah wheresoever you may be, and follow up an evil deed with a good deed, it will efface it (the evil deed). And deal with mankind with good manners."
[At-Tirmidhee reported this Hadeeth as Hasan, Al-Hakim reports it in al-Mustadrak and states that it meets the condition of Bukhari and Muslim Adhahabee agreed.]
This hadeeth is one of forty Ahadeeth of the author, may Allaah have mercy upon hi, and in it is that the Prophet (Sallalaahu Alaihi wa Sallam) gave three great and important pieces of advice:
The First: He said "have Taqwaa of Allaah whersoever you may be."
Taqwaa means to stay away from the forbidden matters and to enact the obligatory matters - this is Taqwaa that you enact what Allaah has commanded you, sincerely for Allaah and in compliance to the Messenger of Allaah (Sallalaahu Alaihi wa Sallam), and that you leave what Allaah has forbidden due to His prohibiting it and to steer clear of it.
For example that you establish the greatest obligation that Allaah has imposed upon you after the testimony of faith - the Prayer, and you establish it completely, fulfilling all of its conditions and pillars and obligations fulfilling all of these perfectly.
So whosoever leaves off any of these conditions, pillars or obligations, then he has not feared Allaah (to the best of his ablility), rather he has been deficient in this to the extent of what he left out.
In Zakaah, the Taqwaa of Allaah lies in your calculating all of your property on which is due, and giving the Zakaah as a means of purifying yourself without any miserliness or tight distends, or delay.
And whosoever does not do this then he has not feared Allaah. In Fasting the Taqwaa of Allaah lies in establishing the Fast as you have been commanded, distancing yourself from the idle speech, obscene word mannerisms, boisterous behaviour, backbiting and preading tales and other such things that make the fast deficient and remove the spirit of fasting.
The true meaning of fasting is to fast from that which Allaah (SWT) has made forbidden.
The same applies to all the obligations that are used to establish obedience to Allaah, and compliance to His command, sincerely for Him and in following His Messenger. Likewise all the forbidden action is to be left in compliance to His prohibition.
The Second: "and follow up an evil deed with a good one, it will efface it (the evil deed)."
Meaning that when you perform and evil action then follow it up with a good action to be performed after the evil is that you repent to Allaah for this evil action, for indeed repentance is for the most noble and excellent of the good actions as Allaah Has said
"Indeed Allaah loves those who repent and purify themselves."
[Surah Al Baqarah Ayah 222]
And He said
"And repent to Allaah all of you, O believers so that you may be successful"
[24:31]
Similarly righteous actions expiate the evil action as the Prophet (Sallalaahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said,
"The five daily prayers and one Jumu'ah to the next, and one Ramadaan to the next Ramadaan, is expiation for what lies between them as a long as one refrains from the major sins."
[Muslim]
And he said
"One Umrah to the next is an expiation for what is in between them"
[Bukhari]
Therefore the good actions efface the evil actions.
The Third: "and deal with mankind with good manners."
The first two pieces of advice were those related to relationship with the Creator, and this third relates relationship of the creation to the createion.
This is to deal with mankind with the best of manners such that you will be praised and not blamed.
This by having a cheerful complexion, being truthful in speech speaking to each other nicely and such good manners.
so noble manners, along with their being a way to beautify gatherings and the person who possesses them being beloved to the people, contain a huge reward which will be bestowed on the person on the day of judgement.
So preserve these three pieces of Advice from the Prophet (Sallalaahu Alaihi wa Sallam) and Allaah is the Grantor of Success.

Shyness of the Prophet Moosa
Shyness of the Prophet Moosa
Sahih Bukhari Volume 4, Book 55, Number 616:
Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah's Apostle said, "(The Prophet) Moses was a shy person and used to cover his body completely because of his extensive shyness. One of the children of Israel hurt him by saying, 'He covers his body in this way only because of some defect in his skin, either leprosy or scrotal hernia, or he has some other defect.' Allah wished to clear Moses of what they said about him, so one day while Moses was in seclusion, he took off his clothes and put them on a stone and started taking a bath. When he had finished the bath, he moved towards his clothes so as to take them, but the stone took his clothes and fled; Moses picked up his stick and ran after the stone saying, 'O stone! Give me my garment!' Till he reached a group of Bani Israel who saw him naked then, and found him the best of what Allah had created, and Allah cleared him of what they had accused him of. The stone stopped there and Moses took and put his garment on and started hitting the stone with his stick. By Allah, the stone still has some traces of the hitting, three, four or five marks. This was what Allah refers to in His Saying:-- "O you who believe! Be you not like those Who annoyed Moses, But Allah proved his innocence of that which they alleged, And he was honorable In Allah's Sight." (33.69)

Lesson 6 Rastafarian Faith
Rastafari and other Abrahamic faiths
Some Rastafari choose to classify their movement as Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity, Protestant Christianity, or Judaism. Of those, the ties to the Ethiopian Church are the most widespread, although this is controversial to many Ethiopian clergy. Rastafari typically hold that standard translations of the Bible incorporate changes, or were edited for the benefit of the power structure.
[edit] Ganja
CannabisSee also: Spiritual use of cannabis
For Rastas, smoking cannabis, usually known as "herb", "weed", "sinsemilla" (Spanish for "without seeds") or "ganja" (from the Sanskrit word, "Ganjika", used in ancient India), is a spiritual act, often accompanied by Bible study; they consider it a sacrament that cleans the body and mind, heals the soul, exalts the consciousness, facilitates peacefulness, brings pleasure, and brings them closer to Jah. They often burn the herb when in need of insight from Jah. The burning of the herb is often said to be essential "for it will sting in the hearts of those that promote and perform evil and wrongs." By the 8th century, cannabis had been introduced by Arab traders to Central and Southern Africa, where it is known as "dagga"[15] and many Rastas say it is a part of their African culture that they are reclaiming.[16] It is sometimes also referred to as "the healing of the nation", a phraseology adapted from Revelation 22:2.[17]
The migration of many thousands of Hindus from India to the Caribbean in the 20th century may have brought this culture to Jamaica. Many academics point to Indo-Caribbean origins for the ganjah sacrament resulting from the importation of Indian migrant workers in a post-abolition Jamaican landscape. "Large scale use of ganjah in Jamaica... dated from the importation of indentured Indians..."(Campbell 110). Dreadlocked mystics, often ascetic, known as sadhus, have smoked cannabis in India for centuries.[18]
According to many Rastas, the illegality of cannabis in many nations is evidence that persecution of Rastafari is a reality. They are not surprised that it is illegal, seeing it as a powerful substance that opens people's minds to the truth — something the Babylon system, they reason, clearly does not want.[19] They contrast it to alcohol and other drugs, which they feel destroy the mind.[20]
They hold that the smoking of cannabis enjoys Biblical sanction, and is an aid to meditation and religious observance. Among Biblical verses Rastas quote as justifying the use of cannabis:
Genesis 1:11 "And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so."
Genesis 1:29 "And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb-bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat."
Genesis 3:18 "... thou shalt eat the herb of the field."
Psalms 104:14 "He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man."
Proverbs 15:17 "Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith."[21]
Revelation 22:2 " the river of life proceeded to flow from the throne of God, and on either side of the bank there was the tree of life, and the leaf from that tree is for the healing of the nations"
According to some Rastafari[22] and other scholars, the etymology of the word "cannabis" and similar terms in all the languages of the Near East may be traced to the Hebrew "qaneh bosm" קנה-בשם, which is one of the herbs God commanded Moses to include in his preparation of sacred anointing perfume in Exodus 30:23; the Hebrew term also appears in Isaiah 43:24; Jeremiah 6:20; Ezekiel 27:19; and Song of Songs 4:14. Deuterocanonical and canonical references to the patriarchs Adam, Noah, Abraham and Moses "burning incense before the Lord" are also applied, and many Rastas today refer to cannabis by the term "ishence" — a slightly changed form of the English word "incense". It is also said that cannabis was the first plant to grow on King Solomon's grave.
In 1998, then-Attorney General of the United States Janet Reno, gave a legal opinion that Rastafari do not have the religious right to smoke ganjah in violation of the United States' drug laws. The position is the same in the United Kingdom, where, in the Court of Appeal case of R. v. Taylor [2002] 1 Cr. App. R. 37, it was held that the UK's prohibition on cannabis use did not contravene the right to freedom of religion conferred under the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.
On January 2, 1991, at an international airport in his homeland of Guam, Ras Iyah Ben Makahna (Benny Guerrero) was arrested for possession and importation of marijuana and seeds. He was charged with importation of a controlled substance. The case was heard by the US 9th Circuit Court November 2001, and in May 2002 the court had decided that the practice of Rastafari sanctions the smoking of marijuana, but nowhere does the religion sanction the importation of marijuana. Guerrero's lawyer Graham Boyd pointed out the court's ruling was "equivalent to saying wine is a necessary sacrament for some Christians but you have to grow your own grapes."[23]
In July 2008, however, the Italian Supreme Court ruled that Rastafari may be allowed to possess greater amounts of cannabis legally, owing to its use by them as a sacrament.[24][25]

Story of 4 wives
----------------------
Once upon a time there was a rich King who had four wives. He loved the 4th wife the most and adorned her with rich robes and treated her to the finest of delicacies. He gave her nothing but the best. He also loved the 3rd wife very much and was always showing her off to neighboring kingdoms. However, he feared that one day she would leave him for another. He also loved his 2nd wife. She was his confidant, and was always kind, considerate and patient with him. Whenever the King faced a problem, he could confide in her, and she would help him get through the difficult times.
The King's 1st wife was a very loyal partner and had made great contributions in maintaining his wealth and kingdom. However, he did not love the first wife. Although she loved him deeply, he hardly took notice of her! One day, the King fell ill and he knew his time was short. He thought of his luxurious life and wondered, "I ! now have four wives with me, but when I die, I'll be all alone."Thus, he asked the 4th wife, "I have loved you the most, endowed you with the finest clothing and showered great care over you. Now that I'm dying, will you follow me and keep me company?"
"No way!", replied the 4th wife, and she walked away without another word. Her answer cut like a sharp knife right into his heart.
The sad King then asked the 3rd wife, "I have loved you all my life. Now that I'm dying, will you follow me and keep me company?" "No!", replied the 3rd wife. "Life is too good! When you die, I'm going to remarry!" His heart sank and turned cold.
He then asked the 2nd wife, "I have always turned to you for help and you've always been there for me. When I die, will you follow me and keep me company?" "I'm sorry, I can't help you out this time!", replied the 2nd wife. "At the very most, I can only send you to your grave." Her answer came like a bolt of lightning, and the King was devastated.
Then a voice called out: "I'll leave with you and follow you no matter where you go." The King looked up, and there was his first wife. She was so skinny as she suffered from malnutrition and neglect. Greatly grieved, the King said, "I should have taken much better care of you when I had the chance!"
In truth, we all have 4 wives in our lives: Our 4th wife is our body. No matter how much time and effort we lavish in making it look good, it will leave us when we die.
Our 3rd wife is our possessions, status and wealth. When we die, it will all go to others.
Our 2nd wife is our family and friends. No matter how much they have been there for us, the furthest they can stay by us is up to the grave.
And our 1st wife is our Soul. Often neglected in pursuit of wealth, power and pleasures of the world. However, our Soul is the only thing that will follow us wherever we go.

Prophets Noah And Ibraheem

Prophets Noah And Ibraheem
The Callers to Allah: Nuh and Ibrahim, `alayhim as salam
Dr. Saalih ibn Ghaanim al-Sadlaan
Excerpted from "The Callers to Allaah", Hudaa, Safar 1420
Nuh (Noah) `alayhis salam
The name of the Prophet Nuh `alayhis salam has been mentioed in the Qur’aan forty-five times. Let us recall some of the aayaat and soorahs that mention his name; then we will follow up with a recollection of selections from the history of his guidance in his call to Allaah. Allaah subhanahu wa ta`ala says (what means):
"And indeed We sent Nuh to his people, and he stayed among them a thousand years less fifty years, and the deluge overtook them while they were wrong-doers." (Al-`Ankaboot 29:14)
Allaah subhanahu wa ta`ala also says (what means): "Verily, We sent Nuh to his people (saying): ‘Warn your people before there comes to them a painful torment.’ He said, ‘O my people! Verily, I am a plain warner to you.’" (Nuh 71:1-2)
And so came to pass a tradition by Allaah subhanahu wa ta`ala, in which the propagation faced trials, ordeals etc. Along with that there were barriers put up by the enemies of Allaah, as a means of standing in the way of the call to monotheism and towards its callers. This is the long history of humankind from the time of the Prophet Nuh `alayhis salam to our present day; full of dedicated powers standing in the path of the da`wah to Allaah, subhanahu wa ta`ala, publicly being insurgent and intimidating, without shame, or discretion. Prophet Nuh (`alayhis salam) had stayed among his people a very long time – that none but a very few believed his call. So the rest were taken away by the flood, as they were wrong-doers.
Nuh `alayhis salam underwent a long struggle, affirming the reality of faith, forbearance, and steadfast struggle. It is, therefore, upon the caller to Allaah subhanahu wa ta`ala to follow the lesson of his example; confronting difficulty in pursuing the struggle in making Allaah’s word supreme, regardless of the difficulty and the necessary effort.
Ibraheem `alayhis salam
Indeed the Prophet Ibraheem `alayhis salam was a true Muslim, avoiding any creed except that of Al-Islaam (submitting onseself to Allaah only, and following His commands), and believing that Islaam is the first and final message to the whole of humanity. This was also the belief of those who succeeded him from among his progeny: Isma`eel `alayhis salam, Ishaaq `alayhis salam, Ya`qoob `alayhis salam, and al-asbaat (the twelve descendants of Jacob who are the twelve tribes of Israel). They pased this creed on to the Prophet Musa `alayhis salam and `Eesa `alayhis salam, and the matter finally concluded with the Muslim descendents of Ibraheem `alayhis salam.
The story of Ibraheem `alayhis salam in the Noble Qur’aan shows us that the orderly conduct of living, the manner of morals, and principles of behavior and ethics cannot be implemented and firmly upheld except if the `aqeedah (creed) connects the spirt with the body.
Indeed, Ibraheem `alayhis salam was atthe peak of his youth when Allaah subhanahu wa ta`ala gave him maturity and adulthood, as he denouned the worshipping of idols by destroying them. Thus, he observed with his mind and heart, and with consciousness and wisdom to their gods (idols); he ridiculed and mocked them, and finally broke them up into little pieces. Not only that, but he also ridiculed the mentality of the people, and opposed them, saying (what means),
"Fie upon you, and upon that which you worship besides Allaah! Have you then no nsense?" (Al-Anbiyaa’ 21:67)
Thereafter, they were overtaken by pride which lead them to offense, just as it always does the tyrna oppresonrs and the powerless alike, when they have no proof. So, they resort to outrageous, tyrannical force, and severe punishment, as they said,
"Burn him! (Ibraheem), and give victory to your gods, if you will do so." (Al-`Anbiyaa’ 21:68)
But, the mercy of Allaah subhanahu wa ta`ala and His help for those who call others to Him, totally voided their sayings and nullified their plan (to throw Ibraheem into a blazing fire). Allaah subhanahu wa ta`ala says (what means):
"We (Allah) said: ‘O fire! Be coolness and safety for Ibraheem’. (Al-Anbiyaa’ 21:69)
So, take a good look at "the father of prophets". He suffered, but was patient; and was gifted, so in return he was thankful; hence the generous end (of this conflict) was befitting to him, and for his "sabrun jameel" (graceful patience). From his progeny, the best of nations were sent out to the people, guding with the Command of Allaah, and establishing Allaah’s legislature upon guidance and light. So, similar action must be displayed by the people of da`wah; to be patient in the face of rejection, and in suffering for its sake. And by all means must they hold steadfast to the haqq (truth), whatever the price or sacrifice may be.
Allaah subhanahu wa ta`ala says (what means):
And indeed We bestowed aforetime on Ibrâhim (Abraham) his (portion of) guidance, and We were Well-Acquainted with him (as to his Belief in the Oneness of Allâh, etc.).
When he said to his father and his people: "What are these images, to which you are devoted?"
They said:"We found our fathers worshipping them."
He said: "Indeed you and your fathers have been in manifest error."
They said: "Have you brought us the truth, or are you one of those who play about?"
He said: "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them and of that I am one of the witnesses.
"And by Allâh, I shall plot a plan (to destroy) your idols after you have gone away and turned your backs."
So he broke them to pieces, (all) except the biggest of them, that they might turn to it.
They said: "Who has done this to our âliha (gods)? He must indeed be one of the wrong-doers."
They said: "We heard a young man talking (against) them who is called Ibrâhim (Abraham)."
They said: "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may testify."
They said: "Are you the one who has done this to our gods, O Ibrâhim (Abraham)?"
[Ibrâhim (Abraham)] said: "Nay, this one, the biggest of them (idols) did it. Ask them, if they can speak!"[]
So they turned to themselves and said: "Verily, you are the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers)."
Then they turned to themselves (their first thought and said): "Indeed you [Ibrâhim (Abraham)] know well that these (idols) speak not!"
[Ibrâhim (Abraham)] said: "Do you then worship besides Allâh, things that can neither profit you, nor harm you?
"Fie upon you, and upon that which you worship besides Allâh! Have you then no sense?"
They said: "Burn him and help your âliha (gods), if you will be doing."
We (Allâh) said: "O fire! Be you coolness and safety for Ibrâhim (Abraham)!"
And they wanted to harm him, but We made them the worst losers.
And We rescued him and Lout (Lot) to the land which We have blessed for the 'Alamîn (mankind and jinns).
And We bestowed upon him Ishâque (Isaac), and (a grandson) Ya'qûb (Jacob). Each one We made righteous.
And We made them leaders, guiding (mankind) by Our Command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds, performing Salât (Iqâmat-as-Salât), and the giving of Zakât and of Us (Alone) they were worshippers.
(Soorah Al-Anbiyaa 51:73)
And after this declaration it is of no strangeness that we see such great praise by Allaah subhanahu wa ta`alaa by making him (Ibraheem) the father of the prophets, an example for those who follow the truth, and a leader of the messengers. He is also chosen from among the messengers for friendship (Ibraheem is sometimes referred to as Khaleelullah, or al-Khaleel, meaning the friend of Allaah) and virtue, and from him does the tree of prophethood branch out. He is symbolic of eemaan (faith). He was tested through suffering and was patient, and was given victory, so he was thankful. Hence, he was a loyal and faithful servant of Allaah. So Allaah made him an ummah (solely) (a model; pattern; example for imitation; but the idea that he was an ummah himself, standing alone against his world, should not be lost sight of), and took him as a khaleel (friend). Allaah subhanahu wa ta`aala says (what means):
"Ibraheem was indeed a model, devoutly obedient to Allaah, and true in faith, and he joined not gods with Allaah."
Allaah also says what means:
"And Allaah did take Ibraheem as a friend." So, o callers to Islaam, answer the call of your father Ibraheem concerning mankind (what means):
"O my Lord, they have indeed led astray many among mankind, but whoever follows me, is verily of me, and whoever disobeys me – still you are indeed Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." (Ibraheem 14:36)
Therefore, be patient, forbear, persevere, invite, despair not, and fear Allaah so that you may succeed
Dead Man Walking- Amir Sulaiman
I am a dead man walking
A mute man talking
A blind man watching
Our brothers die
And I’ve built our coffins
Much too often
It gets so dark when
Our mothers cry
I know more than I want too,
But not nearly enough
I thought I was writing for the love
But it just turns to be lust
And my trust in us was gullibility
The reality is just that
I’m not who I was,
Nor who I will be.
But sometimes I feel me visiting
And I fill me with the lush scent of soul,
The flavor of feeling
The rush of color
I think the pleasure will kill me
The pressure squeezes and spills me
To the language of the unseen,
The unthought, and the undreamed.
And my heart begins to pump
The thick/ rich/ fluid of verse
Searching for a simple word or phrase
To fill the phase between
The wet nurse and the black hearse.
And I know sometimes my words
Lack worth
Lack depth
Lack gerth
Lack the distance to travel from
Heaven to Earth
Or from mind to brain
Or from soul to flesh
I hold my breath and my hollow hope
That my hope aint hollow
It’s just a message in a bottle
Or a genie in a bottle
Or a wino and his bottle
Or a baby and the bottle
The symphony of me is stuck in staccato
Like a broken/ break beat/
Breaking the vinyl into
Bits of blackness spinning in circles
Come down Selecta
Last night the DJ took my life
But left the speakers empty
And the speakers speechless
And the dancers still
Dancing or not,
They don’t see our music as musing
Merely amusing amusement
How could they know in
Basement booths
We’ve balanced the nexus between
The soul and the flesh
And the science and intellect
We rock genius like a necklace
We drop jewels in gutters.
But they fooled our mothers
Into thinking that they could raise sons
In the darkness of night.
But isn’t the night always dark before the sun is raised?
And when the sun is raised
Doesn’t he make the block hot
And the eye squint
And the breath sweat
And the tree grow
And the children play
The rays sun makes the pavement see
The wavy apparitions
The mirage of the future
But I know
I am a dead man walking
A mute man talking
A blind man watching
Our brothers die
And I’ve built our coffins
Much too often
It gets so dark when
Our mothers cry
So now I’m walking the thin line
Between love and hate
Between words that are spoken
And beats that break
There’s a thin line between
A bullet in the chamber
And the bullet in the brain
I’m civilized, sane, with a little savage in me
There’s not really a little savage in me
Just a lot of passion in me
And sometimes the soul rolls
Outta control without a glass of rem’y
And some people are fine with being slaves
Just as long as massa’s friendly
And let us spit fire into match
Until the mag’ is empty
You don’t need to pass the cem’y
To know there’s a little assassin in me
Just know
There is no soul taken accident’ly
The angel of death has an itinerary
Snatch you right outta your Bently
Right outta your Gucci jeans
Right outta your Fendi
Right outta your dashik’
And right outta your Kente
Allah has written in his book
And there is no erasing the pen’s ink
So why do we ignore what God knows
And rely on what men think
We’re just boys in the backstreet
Just tryin’ to get in sync
But my balance is off
My talent is lost
I’ve married my art, but
She’s barren of course
And I hear in her voice that
We’re headin’ divorse
So before court
I may have to kill my dreams and
Bury the corpse
I shed a tear for the loss
I feel like I’m bearing the cross
My conception was so far from immaculate
For the most part,
We’re just a bunch of bastard kids
Our fathers are gone
Caught in the cycle of sadomasochism
Because our lives are dead wrong
But resurrected like Lazarus
Cause our mothers are strong
And our romances are just about
as romantic as the master’s kiss
But we have got to move on
And our lives are about as painful
As the master’s whip
We have got to move on
I wish I could sing for justice
But I know no such song
I know about Shohada
Souha and Koran,
Jihad, martyrdom, and homemade bombs
I know you think I’m wrong
For talking about homemade bombs
But the leader of the free world
Can drop A-bombs and napalm
And got the nerve to ask
“Why do they hate us?”
When they still got the blood on their palms
They stay long
And sing songs about freedom and justice
All bloody day long
And claiming they’re right
But they’ve got to be dead wrong
And maybe I’m just too drawn
And head strong
And now
I’m ready to run head long
Into enemy fire
It’s like we desire death.
I just got the same blood that
Pumps through a lion’s chest.
I come from a line of warriors
Who took off the leather vest
And sheathed the sword
And sprint into the thick of the mess
I am begging them now
Show me your best!
There are two possible outcomes:
One, I could send them to rest
Or two, they could send me to my lord
I like the second one the best
I will kill the killers who live
I’ve settled for less
Because I’m already a
I am a dead man walking
A mute man talking
A blind man watching
Our brothers die
But I won’t build our coffins
And I will not take part in
The death of my heart’s kin
I would rather die.
A mute man talking

Always and Foerver

I aint got nothing better to do than write this night away.
You see these words are foreplay.
Imagination is the room where I stay to write what I see through out the day.
Some may say that poetry is wack.
They just mad because they to trapped to relate to it.
See poetry always had my back.
And even though I never had much money rhymes I used to stack.
Billing and keeping track.
Sold more wisdom to my soul than any type of rap.
Imagine that rulers can’t measure that.
The treasure one can find in speaking their mind.
Never rushed or running out of time.
I’m a junkie to this high that beautiful words give me.
Immersed in love watching as they envy.
They never thought it was in me.
They were to busy watching emcee’s living.
A lie a waste of time, nothing combined can amount to a pure rhyme.
One minute you can shine and change a few minds.
Every body sitting and listening waiting for you to mention.
And they pay attention and credit is always due.
I’m in love with any person who pursues.
Careers in this field if you can’t get paid do it for a hobby
They will watch you from the lobby, spit a rhyme for bobby
Or that girl with that body or that dude that’s always eyeing
Girl he think you fly but he to shy to speak what’s inside
Poetry is the keys to his ride
Its lets him hop inside her heart from time to time
Creep in from behind she leaves the keys under the door.
It’s like telling a story it never gets boring
No sleeping no snoring just love and adornment
Heaven sent hell bound
Lost and now found
And I know you’re a witness these rhymes be relentless
Never gonna diss this
No matter how far the distance
Always on time for class when poetry is teaching
To hear him preach in rhyme is a gift
If you don’t care for it class dismissed
But poetry will always have my heart
And be my first love
Because it never asks me for much and no matter how long I go away he always keeps in touch
He helps me fulfill my potential
Helps me stay focused in this world I’m still mental
And I meant to do this a lil better
But poetry won’t complain because my pen won’t let her…!
Freestyle we wild this open letter can only get better!
Homie you better sweat her! Poetry poetry poetry
Roll with me you and I can make history!
Or at the least we can tell his-story!

What Is Wrong With You ?
What is wrong with you?
Why do you do the things you do
It’s unfair to put me through the blues
When to you I’ve always been true.
I thought I was suppose to be your partner
But you treat me like an enemy
You like a crooked cop
Sometimes I think you envy me
All this enmity is it really necessary
You be acting all strange your attitudes scary
We don’t even talk its like you never hear me
And when we do talk you speak so unclearly
Loud and UN bearing alotta cursing alotta swearing
And I wear your ring because I thought you loved me dearly
Now your like girl dare me! I told you not to push me!
No it’s you who can’t push me!
You can’t wrap your huge hands around my neck
Or push me down the steps
Than make love to me.
You only make hate to me
Each night we lay you rape me
And you breathe so heavily
I just wish it was pleasant or heavenly!
Love is blind
But my vision is getting stronger I’m starting to see
You’re a coward all I win is screaming matches
As you mush my face into the mattress
Saying I should be glad you don’t smack it!
No I will be glad when you be the warrior you were meant to be
When you protect me, respect me, not lie and neglect me!
I’m sick of speaking indirectly
I mean did Adam ever hit Eve?
I mean I’m a women maybe you should hook up with Steve
And we mad because Eve mess with Eve
Well at least they know in the worst case scenario the odds would be even!
I am a lover not a fighter
And now here I am fighting for your love!
Fighting for your attention, affection and hugs!
You to caught up being a thug to be a man!
All this hardness I don’t understand!
What happened to your soul?
Your eyes are so empty
I just want to make you happy
That’s all I ever wanted
And you had the nerve to front like we had the same desire!
Are you trying to kill me!
When I look at you my soul is set on fire
Your lies are making me tired
It’s not worth it
And I know no relationship to be perfect
But looking in the mirror I do more than reflect
And looking at you, robbery I suspect!
Someone has stolen your identity
You aren’t half the man I know you can be
So the only choice is left to me
And no longer can I afford to choose foolishly
And no longer can I let you abuse me
Usually I’d be willing to work it out
Maybe you will change
But I will no longer be your target range
And let you sell my soul like a stock exchange
I will no longer ask you
What is wrong with you?
Because me sticking around has only proved that there is something wrong with me!
I must fly free a black butterfly
Doesn’t deserve a black eye!
So no longer will I ask why!
I’ll just think god I’m alive
He gave me the strength to survive
Now I’m revived my hope has been spared
And I know you’ve been unfair
And you never could have cared
We were never a pair
All you brought me was pain and tears!
Now I’m ready and prepared to face the future without you
No doubt I’m scared but this fear is nothing compared to what you put me through!
And now you ask me,
I thought I was supposed to be your partner?
My answer is,
You no longer meet the qualifications, you lack patience, for my womb will never bare your nation
There was never a relation, only isolation so you leave me with no choice but to seek a new occupation!

I'm Ready

If I made you my everything would you let me down?
If I told you I loved you would you front when your friends came around
Would hold my hand all around town
Would you be my man would you understand?
The bond that is to be shared between a women and a man
Would you doubt my love?
How far would I have to go to prove myself true?
Each minute of my day would I have to spend with you?
Or all of my wealth would I have to spend on you?
You’re a gem and I love you because you’re genuine
But this fronting got to end
I’m ready whenever you want to began.
On my dedication you can depend
I won’t ever give in
Won’t care about the next man
Even if he drove a Lexus
Won’t send no secrets text’s
Or instant messages.
They can’t compare or get next to his throne
All dogs like to roam but now its time to come home.
So we can build our kingdom
This queen deserves freedom.
And a peace of mind
For a moment in time.
I swear by the one who sits high
I won’t sway you with fake lullabies
Or tell you any lies
So whenever you come to realize.
I’ll be waiting ready to take my seat by your side
And be down with you as long as my heart seeks
As longs as my feet sweeps this ground
As long as my ears can hear sound
As long as my eyes can weep
As long as my hands can beat
Forever forever with you seems so sweet

.Tafseer of Sorah 104 Al-Humazah (The Slanderer)

As Salaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah,
Tafsir of Surat Al-Humazah (The Slanderer) 104
Bismillah ir-Rahman ir-Rahim
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
(1. Woe to every Humazah Lumazah.) (2. Who has gathered wealth and counted it.) (3. He thinks that his wealth will make him last forever!) (4. But no! Verily, he will be thrown into Al-Hutamah.) (5. And what will make you know what Al-Hutamah is) (6. The fire of Allah, Al-Muqadah,) (7. Which leaps up over the hearts.) (8. Verily, it shall Mu'sadah upon them,) (9. In pillars stretched forth.) Al-Hammaz refers to (slander) by speech, and Al-Lammaz refers to (slander) by action. This means that the person finds fault with people and belittles them. An explanation of this has already preceded in the discussion of Allah's statement,
[هَمَّازٍ مَّشَّآءِ بِنَمِيمٍ ]
(Hammaz, going about with slander) (68:11) Ibn `Abbas said, "Humazah Lumazah means one who reviles and disgraces (others).'' Mujahid said, "Al-Humazah is with the hand and the eye, and Al-Lumazah is with the tongue.'' Then Allah says,
[الَّذِى جَمَعَ مَالاً وَعَدَّدَهُ ]
(Who has gathered wealth and counted it.) meaning, he gathers it piling some of it on top of the rest and he counts it up. This is similar to Allah's saying,
[وَجَمَعَ فَأَوْعَى ]
(And collect (wealth) and hide it.) (70:18) This was said by As-Suddi and Ibn Jarir. Muhammad bin Ka`b said concerning Allah's statement,
[جَمَعَ مَالاً وَعَدَّدَهُ]
(gathered wealth and counted it.) "His wealth occupies his time in the day, going from this to that. Then when the night comes he sleeps like a rotting corpse.'' Then Allah says,
[يَحْسَبُ أَنَّ مَالَهُ أَخْلَدَهُ ]
(He thinks that his wealth will make him last forever!) meaning, he thinks that gathering wealth will make him last forever in this abode (the worldly life).
[كَلاَّ]
(But no!) meaning, the matter is not as he claims, nor as he reckons. Then Allah says,
[لَيُنبَذَنَّ فِى الْحُطَمَةِ]
(Verily, he will be thrown into Al-Hutamah.) meaning, the person who gathered wealth and counted it, will be thrown into Al-Hutamah, which is one of the descriptive names of the Hellfire. This is because it crushes whoever is in it. Thus, Allah says,
[وَمَآ أَدْرَاكَ مَا الْحُطَمَةُ - نَارُ اللَّهِ الْمُوقَدَةُ - الَّتِى تَطَّلِعُ عَلَى الاٌّفْئِدَةِ ]
(And what will make you know what Al-Hutamah is The fire of Allah, Al-Muqadah, which leaps up over the hearts.) Thabit Al-Bunani said, "It will burn them all the way to their hearts while they are still alive.'' Then he said, "Indeed the torment will reach them.'' Then he cried. Muhammad bin Ka`b said, "It (the Fire) will devour every part of his body until it reaches his heart and comes to the level of his throat, then it will return to his body.''
Concerning Allah's statement,
[إِنَّهَا عَلَيْهِم مُّؤْصَدَةٌ ]
(Verily, it shall Mu'sadah upon them.) meaning, covering, just as was mentioned in the Tafsir of Surat Al-Balad (see 90:20). Then Allah says,
[فِى عَمَدٍ مُّمَدَّدَةِ ]
(In pillars stretched forth. ) "Atiyah Al-`Awfi said, "Pillars of Iron.'' As-Suddi said, "Made of fire.'' Al-`Awfi reported from Ibn `Abbas, "He will make them enter pillars stretched forth, meaning there will be columns over them, and they will have chains on their necks, and the gates (of Hell) will be shut upon them.'' This is the end of the Tafsir of Surat Al-Humazah, and all praise and thanks are due to Allah.
The Power Of Dua

Al Haafidh ibn Rajab mentioned in the commentary of the tabiqaat of Al Hanaabila (196/1) in the biography of Al Qaadi Abi Bakr Muhammad Abdul Al Baaqi Al Bazzaz who died in the year 535 from the migration of the Messenger of ALLAH, peace and blessing be upon him. Sheik Saalih Abu Al Qaasim Al Khazaz Al Bagdadi said, “I heard Al Qaadi Abi Bakr ... See MoreMuhammad Abdul Al Baaqi Al Bazzaz Al Ansaari say”…
I used to live in the vicinity of Mecca, may ALLAH the Exalted protect it, so one day I was stricken with severe hunger and I did not find anything to fight against this hunger. So I found a bag made from silk, tied with a tassel that was also made from silk, so I grabbed it and took it to my house. When I unfasten it I found in it a necklace made from pearl such that I had not seen the like of it before. So when I exited my house I saw an old man that was seeking this bag. With him was a torn rag containing five hundred dinar and he was saying, “This is for the one who returns to me the bag containing the pearls.” So I said, “I am in need, I am hungry, so I will take this money and benefit from it and return to him the bag”. So I said to him, “Come to me”, so I took him and brought him to my home. So he gave me the description of the bag, and the description of the tassel, and the description of the pearls along with their number, and the description of the thread that fasten it. So I removed it from the bag and gave it to him, so he gave me the five hundred dinar, but I did not take it. Then I said to him, “It is incumbent upon me to return this to you and I will not take any reward for it.” He said to me, “You must take it”, and he persisted in this, but I would not take it from him so he left me and went about his way.
As for me, I didn’t have anything so I left Mecca and began sailing in the sea. So the ship tore apart and everyone aboard it drowned and their wealth was destroyed. I was saved by holding onto a piece of the ship. So I remained for a time period in the sea not knowing where I was going. I then arrived at an island that was inhabited by people. I sat in some of the masjids and the people heard me reading, and there did not remain anyone on the island except that he came to me and said, “Teach me the Koran”, so I acquired from the people a lot of wealth. Then I saw in the masjid some paper from a Mushaf, so I took it and began to read it. They said to me, “Do you have good handwriting?” I said yes. So they said, “Teach me handwriting”. So they came to me with their children from amongst the small kids and the young men and I used to teach them. I acquired from this also, a lot of wealth.
After this they said to me, “We have a young orphan girl who has some things from the dunya, (worldly wealth) we would like for you to marry her. I refused, but they said, “It is a must!” And they made this incumbent upon me, so I agreed. After they married her to me, I turned my glance toward her and I found that exact same necklace hanging around her neck! At this time I did not busy myself with anything except staring at this necklace. So they said to me, “Oh Sheik! You have broken this young orphan girl’s heart by looking at this necklace, and you have not even looked at her. So I relayed to them the story of the necklace. So they screamed and yelled out, “There is no deity worthy of worship except ALLAH, ALLAHU AKBAR, until it reached everyone on the island. So I said, “What is with you?” They said, “The old man that took the necklace from you is the father of this young girl.” He used to say, “I have not found in the dunya (world) a Muslim (what is meant here is a trustworthy, kindhearted, one who knows the rights of found property) except the one who returned to me this necklace.” And he used to make dua (supplication) saying, “Oh ALLAH, join me and him together so that I may marry him to my daughter”, and now it has happened. So I remained with her for a time period and I was provided with two sons by her. Then she passed away, so I inherited the necklace, me and my two sons. Then my two sons died, therefore the necklace became mine. So I sold the necklace for one hundred thousand dinar, and the money that you see me with now is what is left over from that money.
